“Eyes to See, Ears to Hear: Pastoral Care for Transformed Lives” with Dr. Gregory C. Ellison, II

2/18/2015

Cost:  $125 (by 1/23)      $150 (after 1/23)

What better way to describe pastoral care than seeing and hearing one another with eyes and ears of compassion and working together for changed lives, congregations, and communities? Dr. Greg Ellison, Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care & Counseling at Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, is committed to missional care—pastoral ministry with those outside as well as within our congregations.   Are there people in your community who long to be heard, but remain invisible, their voices muted? Do clergy & clergy families also feel unseen and unheard at times? What does pastoral care that heals these wounds of isolation look like? What do we need to learn in order to sharpen our vision, tune our hearing, and extend the reach of our caring for others in Jesus’ name? Where do we turn for the listening ear and gracious regard we need?   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dr. Ellison is a frequent presenter to clergy, other religious leaders, and community groups. He teaches a method called “Fearless Dialogue” to expand an audience’s capacity for hearing others. A recent recipient of Candler’s “Faculty Person of the Year Award,” he is an ordained Baptist minister who has served in Methodist and Presbyterian churches. He holds degrees from Emory (BA) and Princeton (MDiv & PhD) Universities and is the author of Cut Dead But Still Alive: Caring for African American Young Men (Abingdon, 2013).    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Additional Event Features:  * Dinner Gatherings of the Orders of Deacon & Elder & the Fellowship of Local Pastors  *“Forming Faith Communities” Workshops *1.5 CEUs for full participation
