Excellence in Ministry

Pastoral Excellence Project (PEP) funded by Lilly Endowment, Inc., 2003-2007: The Center for Ministry is currently implementing a project designed to identify characteristics of effective, faithful ministry and to strengthen and sustain clergy as they pursue excellence. PEP, one of 47 such grant projects across the country, includes these primary components:

Clergy Peer Learning Grants: Two-year grants awarded to diverse self-selected groups of 6-8 clergy (some lay participation possible) who design a peer learning project that deepens collegiality and enhances the practice of ministry.

Foundation Seminars: A series of retreats over the course of a year built around study with visiting scholars and time for rest, worship, and reflection.

Models of Evaluation & Support A reflective, spiritual formation process for pastors and staff-parish relations committees.

Listening to Clergy & Laity: Opportunities for conversation about the things that make for excellence and effectiveness in ministry.

Sabbatical Grants for Scholars & Pastors: Bringing scholars to local churches to preach and teach; allowing clergy time for study, reflection, and renewal.
