About Us
A Brief History...
The Center for Ministry began in 1999 as a joint venture of the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and Millsaps College. During its early years the Center focused upon assisting persons in church, college and community to strengthen existing ministries, revitalize stagnant ones and nurture ministries that address changing socio-cultural dynamics. Enhancing the relationship between Millsaps College and the Mississippi Annual Conference is an original priority that remains a key aspect of the Center’s work.
From this strong foundation of service the Center has evolved into a wellspring of opportunities for lifelong learning and spiritual renewal. Its programs benefit individuals tending their own faith journeys and laity and clergy answering God’s call to leadership in communities and congregations. The Center has been recognized for its existing and potential contributions to the development of spiritual leadership in Mississippi with two Sustaining Pastoral Excellence grants from the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment, Inc.
