Mission & History of the Center for Ministry

Our mission is to create learning environments where leadership for effective ministry in the church, college, and community is fostered.

The Center was founded in 1999 as a shared initiative of the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and Millsaps College. Offering opportunities for continuing education, leadership development, and spiritual formation for clergy, laity, and congregations, the CFM is a resource for the entire state of Mississippi. It is governed by a Board of Directors drawn from the church and the college. In 2002, the Center was awarded a major grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc. to fund the Pastoral Excellence Project (PEP).
