Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Center for Ministry? The Center for Ministry is a collaborative venture of the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and Millsaps College. Its mission is to foster leadership for effective ministry in church, college, and community. To accomplish this mission, the Center offers continuing education and spiritual formation opportunities for clergy and laity, including peer learning groups and the Course of Study for licensed local pastors in the UMC. Though supported by United Methodist institutions, the Center's programs are open to anyone from any denomination.

How can I receive continuing education credit? Register for and participate in a Center for Ministry event or other learning opportunity in an approved setting. Continuing Education Unit (CEU) records for United Methodist clergy in Mississippi are kept by the Center. Annual transcripts are sent to clergy each year in late fall.

Can other events offer continuing education credit? If you are involved in planning a learning event, you may contact the Center for Ministry office in advance to request approval for continuing education credit. Review our Continuing Education Guidelines for more information.

How is the Center for Ministry funded? The CFM was begun with seed money given through the Mississippi Annual Conference and Millsaps College. Ongoing funding comes from a combination of fee generation, grant income, and donor support.

How can I support the Center for Ministry? 1) Pray for the Center and its work in fostering effective religious leadership in Mississippi. 2) Participate in CFM events and programs. 3) Help us tell the Center's story; spread the word about this resource to others. 4) Make a gift to the Center for Ministry annual fund or endowment. Consider an honor gift or memorial for someone important to you! Our address: Center for Ministry, 1701 North State Street, Jackson, MS, 39210.
